...things that matter, things that don't

January 06, 2009

Lists will of course differ, but here's mine:

Yes, They Matter

  1. Eating well. This can mean healthfully, with exposure to diverse foods and flavors, and/or eating fully from the food pyramid or colorfully when it comes to fruits, grains, and vegetables.
  2. Being active. 'Nuff said.
  3. Being helpful. There's no "I" in team, or so the saying goes. Picking up toys and carrying out other requests when asked, being cooperative. Taking a turn.
  4. Being safe: understanding boundaries. When your "light-saber" stick touches another person, for example, that's a boundary crossed.
  5. Having a huge belly laugh, often.
In the Greater Scheme of Things, They Probably Don't Matter All That Much
  1. Date they learned to use the potty.
  2. Date they began reading (barring any disabilities that need diagnosis and addressing).
  3. Teeth weren't brushed this one night/skipped a bath because they fell asleep before it could be accomplished.
  4. Clothes got a stain/milk got spilled.
  5. Gorged on Halloween/Hanukkah/Christmas/Easter/Valentine's Day sweets.
So, what's on your list?
