I credit my kid's crunchy-hippie preschool with teaching him to belt out, "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay/ Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, then dreidel I shall play." They're very non-denominational and all-inclusive, which is partly why I chose the school. Today's focus is on Richard Scarry, beloved author and illustrator of children's books. Don't tell your 1-4 year old, but his funny, lively characters Lowly Worm, Huckle Cat, and the road-trippin' Pig family are really a delightful way to help very young children through the "What's that?"/"How come?" stage without them having to know you're showing your child a picture-based dictionary. I guess it's time to put away the Halloween tea towels, huh? Once Thanksgiving ends, it's time to buy a wreath at Trader Joe's.
